BARNWELL NURSING HOME IN VALATIE BOUGHT BY THE GRAND HEALTHCARE SYSTEM

The Grand Healthcare System, a company that runs several nursing home and rehabilitation facilities throughout the Hudson Valley, has purchased the Barnwell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Church Street.

The center will undergo renovations and rebranding.

Queens-based Grand Healthcare bought the 236-bed nursing home at 3230 Church St., which provides rehabilitation and nursing services to patients who require either short- or long-term nursing care following hospitalization, from Cassena Care, headquartered in Woodbury.

The purchase price has not been disclosed.

The property where the facility is located is owned by Valatie Acquisition II LLC., in Woodbury, which filed a new deed document with the Columbia County Clerk’s Office in March, that still lists Valatie Acquisition as the continued owner of the property.

“We are delighted to add Barnwell to our stable of properties,” said Jeremy Strauss, CEO of The Grand Healthcare System. “The skilled nursing facility is the largest of its kind in Columbia County and has a long and proud history.”

Founded in 1940, the Valatie facility provides comprehensive sub-acute, and long-term rehabilitation and nursing services.

Barnwell also operates a 44-person adult day care center that provides health and related services, as well as care and supervision for adults who require physical rehabilitation, dementia management or other condition-specific forms of assistance.

Barnwell employs 400 workers and will add additional staff in the coming months, including dietary aides, certified nursing assistants, licensed nurses, registered nurses and registered practical nurses.

The rebranding of the Barnwell facility will begin with new interior and exterior signage and new uniforms for staff.

Guests will also have access to hospitality features offered at other Grand properties such as a personalized menu, concierge service, courtesy shuttle service and iPad program to communicate with family and loved ones any time of the day or night.

“This transition to The Grand represents an exciting new chapter in Barnwell’s history,” said The Grand Healthcare System Regional Vice President Bruce Gendron. “We are committed to elevating quality and access to care for local residents and plan to invest in significant upgrades to the facility’s resident living areas, common areas and rehabilitation rooms. Our aim is to create a facility where exceptional clinical care is coupled with a luxury experience for guests and their loved ones.”
