GUILDERLAND FOOD PANTRY GATHERS FOOD, GIFTS FOR FAMILY DISPLACED BY FIRE

More than 90 families are getting fresh holiday meals from the Guilderland Food Pantry this year. But one family is getting a little more.

The Bailey family has had to start from scratch since a fire destroyed their house on Saratoga Street in Cohoes back in March. Now Sarah Bailey and her family have found a new home in Guilderland, and are about a week away from their first Christmas since that fire.

“She admitted to me that she had nothing for Christmas she didn’t have a tree she didn’t have anything for the kids,” says Susan Hennessy, Director of the Guilderland Food Pantry.

Several local businesses have helped gather food and gifts for the family of eight, to take their minds off losing the home where they started their family holiday traditions.

“When you have a fire it’s just not that day that if affects you. it affects you in the long term, the children,” Bailey said.

But for the time being, they can focus on something else, a full Christmas tree and a hot meal.

“Their faces are going to light up this Christmas morning, just to see how blessed we are.”
