THE GRAND HEALTHCARE SYSTEM ACQUIRES BARNWELL NURSING AND REHABILITATION CENTER

Barnwell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, a 236-bed skilled nursing facility in Valatie, N.Y. that provides rehabilitation and nursing services to patients who require either short- or long-term nursing care following hospitalization, has a new name and brand.

The Grand Healthcare System, one of New York’s leading healthcare companies, announced that it has purchased the facility from Cassena Care, headquartered in Woodbury, N.Y., for an undisclosed amount. The facility will be renamed The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Barnwell and will become one of seven facilities across the state to be affiliated with Queens, N.Y.-based company. Other sites include: The Grand at Queens, The Grand at Pawling, The Grand at River Valley, The Grand at Chittenango and The Grand at Rome.

“We are delighted to add Barnwell to our stable of properties,” said Jeremy B. Strauss, CEO of The Grand Healthcare System. “The skilled nursing facility is the largest of its kind in Columbia County and has a long and proud history.”

Founded in 1940, the Church Street facility provides comprehensive sub-acute, and long-term rehabilitation and nursing services. Barnwell also operates a 44-person adult daycare center that provides health and related services, as well as care and supervision for adults who require physical rehabilitation, dementia management or other condition-specific forms of assistance.

“Today’s transition to The Grand represents an exciting new chapter in Barnwell’s history,” said The Grand Healthcare System’s Regional Vice President Bruce Gendron. “We are committed to elevating quality and access to care for local residents and plan to invest in significant upgrades to the facility’s resident living areas, common areas and rehabilitation rooms. Our aim is to create a facility where exceptional clinical care is coupled with a luxury experience for guests and their loved ones.”

The rebranding of The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Barnwell will begin with new interior and exterior signage and new uniforms for staff. Guests will also have access to hospitality features offered at other Grand properties such as a personalized menu, concierge service, courtesy shuttle service and iPad program to communicate with family and loved ones any time of day or night.

The facility currently employs 400 and will add additional members of staff in the coming months, including dietary aides, certified nursing assistants, licensed nurses, registered nurses, and registered practical nurses.
